About Us

Founded in 2022 as the “#SaveSriLanka IT Professionals Group” by a group of IT industry leaders, and later formalised as IT Professionals for the People, IT4P is a non-profit organisation committed to a mission to “Enable and empower the people of Sri Lanka to actively participate in positive social, economic and political change”.

Please note that we are not an industry lobby group. Our purpose is to volunteer our time, effort and brainpower to execute various projects that further our mission to empower and enable citizens of Sri Lanka to actively participate in positive social, economic and political change.

Milestones

April 2022: a group of IT industry leaders came together as citizens to help save Sri Lanka from the ongoing economic and political crisis.

April-July 2022: Organised several peaceful demonstrations attended by 2000+ IT professionals from around the country. Informal membership of nearly 500 (signers of #SaveSriLanka declaration). Issued public statements on key national issues.

October 2022: Public symposium to formally launch as "IT Professionals for the People" (IT4P).

February 2023: Project initiation workshop.

February-October 2023: After evaluating and exploring multiple avenues, settled on an SMS e-Referendum system as the first project.

December 2023: Prototype SMS e-Referendum system launched.

January 2024: SMS e-Referendum system receives national exposure and its first results are tabled in parliament as part of the broad public opposition to the Online Safety Bill.

February 2024: New constitution adopted and pro-tem committee appointed pending an annual general meeting.

March 2024: (Pending) First formal AGM.
